Dr Charles Omollo
Charles completed his PhD at the University of Cape Town (UCT) under the supervision of Prof. Kelly Chibale and Prof. Digby F Warner in 2017. His research focused on synergistic drug combinations with the aim of restoring drug sensitivity on pre-existing resistance because of genetic mutations. Following his PhD, he commenced postdoctoral research fellowship as a Carnegie Development of Emerging Academic Leaders (DEAL) fellow in the Molecular Mycobacterial Research Unit (MMRU). This research focussed on developing novel strategies towards tackling drug-resistant tuberculosis. In October 2021- September 2023, he trained as a Junior Research Fellow under the mentorship of Prof. Warner (MMRU) and Associate Professor Anna Kathleen Coussens, Wellcome Centre for Infectious Diseases Research in Africa (CIDRI-Africa), conducting research in host-pathogen interactions with a focus on tuberculosis.
Charles joined the H3D TB Biology team as an Investigator in October 2023 and is involved in the TB drug discovery screening projects, as well as deconvoluting mechanisms of action of target compounds.
