Dr Naiyaz Ahmad

Post Doc I DART

Naiyaz joined H3D as a postdoc in the TB Biology group in November 2023. He is a dedicated microbiologist with a robust academic background. His academic journey encompasses a BSc Honors in Industrial Microbiology and MSc in Life Sciences with specialization in Microbial Sciences.

Naiyaz obtained his PhD in Biological Sciences/Microbiology from the CSIR-Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow, India. His doctoral research focused on drug discovery for mycobacterial diseases; he has more than five years of doctoral research experience in testing the biological activities of different novel molecules (small compounds and short peptides) against different mycobacterial pathogens, showcasing his versatility in working with various bacterial pathogens, including drug-resistant, virulent, and avirulent strains of M. tuberculosis and Nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTMs), As well as ESKAPE and other bacterial pathogens.

Naiyaz's expertise further extends to testing the efficacy of candidate drug molecules in intricate mouse infection models of mycobacterial diseases (TB and NTM infections), showcasing a holistic understanding of the drug discovery process.  His impactful contributions are evident in over 25 research articles, highlighting the resonance of his work within the scientific community.

In H3D as a postdoc, Naiyaz is currently involved in establishing an in-house murine TB model using Balb/C mice to test candidate drug molecules' in vivo efficacy. Besides that, Naiyaz is actively engaged in other TB biology projects of H3D, including Hit-triaging and Mechanism of Action (MOA) studies.
