Dr Grace Obi

Post Doc | Malaria Chemistry

Dr. Grace Obi received her BSc (Hons.) degree in Industrial Chemistry from Delta State University Nigeria in 2007.

In 2011, she joined the group of Prof Andrew Cammidge at the University of East Anglia, United Kingdom for her MSc (Advanced Organic Chemistry), where she worked on the synthesis of triphenylenes. For her PhD, she moved to the group of Prof Fanie van Heerden at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg Campus in 2016, and worked on a project focused on the synthesis of bioactive natural product derivatives based on the 2-pyrone backbone, as antibacterial and antituberculosis agents. Thereafter, she did a 3-month postdoctoral fellowship in the same research group and published several articles on this project in peer reviewed journals.

Grace lectured undergraduate students organic chemistry in Nigeria. She also tutored and was a demonstrator for chemistry modules during her postgraduate studies at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Grace joined H3D as a postdoctoral research fellow in August 2022 and is currently working on a malaria project.
