Dr Tania Valentine

Post Doc | TB Chemistry

Tania received her BSc degree in Biochemistry (2015) and her BSc (Hons) degree in Chemistry (2016) from at the University of Pretoria.

Thereafter, Tania moved to Stellenbosch University where she began her MSc in Chemistry under the supervision of Dr Katherine de Villiers and Prof Gareth Arnott. After promising early results this was converted to a PhD, which was awarded in March of 2021. Her research focused on developing novel anti-malarial drug candidates. This interdisciplinary project incorporated computer assisted drug design, organic synthesis, and biomimetic screening. Tania then remained with Dr Katherine de Villiers, as a postdoctoral chemist, probing the specific mode of action of the novel compound made during her PhD.

In December of 2021, Tania joined H3D as a postdoctoral research fellow and is working on a project aimed at developing anti-tuberculosis drugs.
