Dr Chris Jurisch
Chris received his BSc from Stellenbosch University in 2013.
Prior to obtaining his BSc (Hons) in chemistry in 2015, he completed an internship at One-Eighty-Degrees, a Cape Town-based metallurgical and materials testing laboratory (2014).
He then continued his post-graduate studies and obtained an MSc in chemistry (cum laude) from Stellenbosch University in 2017. Chris was a participant in the Stellenbosch University – Leipzig University contact seminar that took place in Leipzig, Germany in 2019. In 2021, he completed his PhD in synthetic organic chemistry at Stellenbosch University under the supervision of Prof. Gareth Arnott and co-supervision of Prof. Willem van Otterlo. His PhD project involved studies towards the synthesis of the dimeric core structure of caulamidines A and B, two novel marine alkaloids.
During his post-graduate studies, Chris was a demonstrator and private tutor for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year chemistry modules. He also acted as a lecturer's assistant by developing and performing live practical and theory demonstrations to first year chemistry students. In addition to this, he spent time teaching Cambridge IGCSE chemistry to high school students at Peak Academy (2017 – 2018).
Chris joined H3D as a post-doctoral research fellow in November 2021 and is currently working on a COVID-19 project.
