Dr McQuillan Moyo
McQuillan Moyo joined H3D as a postdoctoral fellow in August 2024. He holds a PhD in Chemistry from Nelson Mandela University, where his research focused on the synthesis of Gatifloxacin, an important fluoroquinolone antibiotic, using flow chemistry technology. His expertise lies in organic synthesis, continuous flow system design, and chemical analysis techniques.
McQuillan also holds a BSc, majoring in Biochemistry and Chemistry, as well as a BSc Honours (Formulation Science, Cum Laude), and an MSc where he investigated the synthesis of L-menthyl glyoxylate, an important intermediate in the manufacture of ARVs using flow chemistry.
With experience as a chemistry demonstrator and tutor during his studies, McQuillan has developed a strong foundation in both batch and continuous flow processes. His research interests include drug discovery, process development, and pharmaceutical manufacturing, with a focus on applying flow chemistry for efficient and sustainable synthesis.
Beyond the lab, McQuillan enjoys sports and outdoor activities such as tennis, hiking, running, and sightseeing. He also has a keen interest in photography and technology.
At H3D, McQuillan is eager to contribute his expertise to innovative chemical processes in drug development, with a particular interest in leveraging flow chemistry for the creation of life-saving medicines.
