Dr Bonani Vinindwa
Bonani obtained her BSc degree at Walter Sisulu University in 2017, majoring in chemistry and physics. She continued her postgraduate studies at the same institution and completed her BSc Hons (2018). After that, she began her MSc in organic chemistry under the supervision of Prof W. Masamba in partnership with H3D. She had the privilege of undertaking most of her MSc research work at H3D under the mentorship of some experienced chemists, including Dr. Preshen Govender, Ms. Jessica Akester, and Dr. Godwin Dziwornu.
During this period, she acquired enormous knowledge and expertise in synthetic medicinal chemistry. Her project involved the synthesis, design, and biological evaluation of chalcone-quinoline-based compounds as antimalarial agents, she completed the degree in 2021 with a distinction.
For PhD, she moved to the group of Prof R. Klein at Rhodes University in 2021. Where she worked on a project focusing on exploring green chemistry methods for the synthesis of antimalarial agents. During this period, she also tutored, mentored, and demonstrated for undergraduate chemistry and pharmacy students.
Bonani joined H3D as a post-doctoral research fellow in July 2024 and is currently working on a malaria project.
